Road Minister’s WestConnex arrogance hits new heights

Media Release – 2 September 2015

Roads Minister Duncan Gay today announced further details for Stage 2 of the WestConnex Project, despite revealing this week that the business case is still under review. The project remains without planning approval and an environmental impact statement. His arrogance also appears to be getting out of hand.

Greens Member for Newtown and WestConnex spokesperson Jenny Leong said:

“It is outrageous that Duncan Gay continues to announce new elements to this project when WestConnex has neither a completed business case nor planning approval.

“In Budget Estimates this week, Duncan Gay confirmed that the business case remains under review. There is still no environmental impact statement – and no planning approval.

“If the Baird government is so certain WestConnex is the answer, why won’t they release the business case? Why all the secrecy?

“The complete lack of transparency on this project raises serious concerns.

“Duncan Gay says the government doesn’t deliver projects by half, but they do deliver projects that don’t have planning approval and that aren’t in the community interest.

“Duncan Gay’s obsession with launching personal attacks and criticisms on inner-Sydney residents shows he is unable to justify WestConnex on any logical grounds.

“The arrogance demonstrated by Duncan Gay claiming he should be worshipped by residents shows this Minister is more interested in his own empire building than he is in delivering for the people of Sydney.

“It’s time for the Premier to pull the Roads Minister into line,” she said.
