Jenny Leong MP recognises the Inner City High School

HANSARD EXTRACT:

Ms JENNY LEONG (Newtown) (18:09): I draw the attention of this Parliament to the new Inner Sydney High School. While the school actually welcomed its first students last year, the building was still being constructed and visitors were restricted due to the pandemic. Recently, I was lucky enough to be given a tour of this wonderful public school by students Alec Bond, Ella Poolman, Xavier Tennant‑Pascoe and Principal Robyn Matthews. These passionate and confident students proudly showed me around their new basketball courts, design and technology workshops, science labs, kitchens, performance spaces, sports halls and flexible learning spaces, as well as the many power points that the students promised they would count for me. The new state‑of‑the‑art facilities marry beautifully with the heritage buildings. As well as being the former home of the Cleveland Street Intensive English High School, these buildings once housed the old Cleveland Street High School and were first used as a public school in 1867. It is wonderful to see the evolution of public education continuing on the site. I look forward to working with the students in the future.
