To the NSW Government,
The rights of LGBTQIA+ communities should be non-negotiable.
We can’t call this an Equality Bill if some workers still risk losing their job when they come out, or if some members of the LGBTQIA+ aren’t equally protected under the Bill.
Discrimination against LGBTIQA+ people has no place in our laws or our community.
I urge you to strengthen anti-discrimination laws in NSW and legislate for equality without exceptions.
Signed,
EQUALITY WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS
This week, the NSW Parliament is considering important legislative changes for LGBTQIA+ people after the Minns Labor government cut a whopping 35 pages out of the Equality Legislation Amendment (LGBTQIA+) Bill 2023.
Discrimination against LGBTIQA+ people has no place in our laws or our community.
These reforms will have a huge impact on queer people in our community and across NSW. For them, it's the difference between participating fully in community life and living in fear of the discrimination they could face in their workplace, in their classroom, or on the street. This Labor Government has already moved quickly to protect religious groups under anti-discrimination laws - but they want to make the LGBTQIA+ community wait indefinitely.
Every single day we wait, we leave the queer community vulnerable to discrimination.
This petition calls on the NSW government to urgently amend the Anti-Discrimination Act to provide these protections while the lengthy law reform commission process takes place. The Act must provide real protection for everyone in our community so that LGBTQIA+ people can be and feel safe at work, in education, and in the community.
Will you sign the petition and tell the Labor Government you support equality without exception?
