Record Number of Greens MPs at Mardi Gras Parade 2016

The Greens are proud to once again be participating the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

The theme of the Greens’ float this year is ‘Transcend Bigotry, Transform our Communities’, which echoes our commitment to trans rights and equality. The Greens remain passionate supporters of full equality for LGBTIQ people in every regard.

Greens Parliamentary leader Richard Di Natale will join the float, along with Federal Greens Senators Janet Rice, Robert Simms and Lee Rhiannon, as well as NSW Greens MPs Jenny Leong, Tamara Smith, Jamie Parker, Mehreen Faruqi and David Shoebridge.

The MPs will be assembled with other marchers from the Greens’ float for a photo call in Hyde Park at 6:30pm.

NSW Greens spokesperson for Sexuality and Gender Diversity Jenny Leong said: “We’re happy to welcome Greens MPs from all around the country to celebrate equality and diversity with us at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. It’s wonderful that Richard Di Natale will continue the tradition of Greens parliamentary leaders marching proudly, to show support for LGBTIQ people.

Senator Di Natale says “The Australian Greens have a proud of history of standing up for the rights of everyone, no matter who they are or who they love. We will continue to work for respect and recognition of all LGBTI Australians with every one of our votes, every time. Happy Mardi Gras!”

Federal Greens Gender Identity spokesperson Janet Rice says “There are still many barriers facing transgender people, but Mardi Gras is a terrific opportunity to celebrate our diversity and take stock of how we can overcome the challenges together.”
