We are so pleased and hopeful that Lidia Thorpe has this week formally joined our team as the newest Australian Greens Senator. After the Victorian Parliament held a joint sitting to confirm her as a Federal Senator for Victoria, Lidia took her place in the Greens Federal Party Room.
We can't wait to see, hear and feel the impact of this powerful Gunnai-Gunditjmara woman, activist, mother, grandmother, and leader in Canberra, across this nation and beyond. We are sure so many people in the electorate of Newtown - and particularly in Redfern share our enthusiasm.
At her first official meeting as a member Federal Greens Party Room, it was announced that Lidia will take on the responsibility of the First Nations, Sport and Justice portfolios. Lidia has said these are issues very close to her heart and she'll be exploring some of the big systemic problems we face as a nation and helping to build this movement to create a brighter, more equal future that leaves no one behind.
