Public schools in the inner city are under pressure as enrolments increase rapidly. Parents have contacted us concerned that the public school at the end of their street has refused to enrol their children because it is full to capacity.
We have heard stories of overcrowded playgrounds, and schools being forced to convert non-teaching rooms like art rooms and computer rooms into teaching rooms. The Baird Liberal Government has plans to massively increase the population density in the inner-city, but our local schools are already stretched to capacity.
I would like to invite you to join us for some iced tea and cake in early December to discuss any other issues you have relating to school catchments, overcrowding and public school funding.
You will also have the opportunity to sign on to our letter to the Education Minister, calling on him to urgently act to address the education needs within our local area.
If you haven't already done so, you can also fill in our survey to tell us if overcrowding is an issue at the school your children attend.
