A: Housing! Esp. Affordable
A: You mention climate change but as well as stopping fossil fuel use, we need to consider how we’re going to adapt & deal with increasing heat and storms. This has to be central to all planning. We’re going to need more trees, more greenery, and buildings better designed for heat and heavy rainfall.

A: I have been wondering about this site for a long time. Here are a few options I’d like considered:
1) Local Indigenous people should be consulted as a priority. It is their land.
2) Bring back the trams! I would love to see trams replace most of the buses down King St to connect up with the city trams around Central station. We should be thinking of the next 20 – 50 years. I realise King St is used by trucks going down the Princess Hwy, but would like to see trams fully explored as an option before anything else.
3) If it is not used for public transport, the site is big enough for more than one use. This could include:
a) Open public space.
King St could definitely use a small public park where you can eat lunch, listen to buskers or meet friends. We need more shade trees in Newtown for when it gets hot.
The existing community garden should be incorporated into this.
b) Small businesses / market stalls.
There could be some shops to bring in rent, but no large shopping mall! There are already plenty of shops on King St. But currently not enough spaces for small stalls which there is obviously a demand for. The space outside the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is limited so people set up random stalls under the ‘I have a dream’ mural and in front of the train station. The tram sheds site could have dedicated space for regular stalls / markets / occasional small festivals in keeping with the vibe of Newtown.
c) The back section on Angel St could be for some housing. We need more Indigenous and low-income housing in the area.
A: Justise cannot happen when our courts are so slow, and there is better options for the wealthy. why does it take 25 years to complete a land rights claim? Why are the poor jailed and the wealthy not?
