Internationally acclaimed artist Wendy Sharpe has just finished a brand new mural dedicated to women's empowerment, right in the heart of Newtown.
We were delighted to visit Wendy as she worked on the mural, located on the corner of Church and Federation Streets in Newtown. One of the few silver linings of the COVID-19 pandemic is that an artist of Wendy's calibre was available to create this incredible piece right in our the corner of one of our most beloved green spaces - Camperdown Memorial Rest Park.
Homeowner Ewan recognised years ago that the large blank wall on the exterior of his house would be perfect for a mural and approached the Inner West Council to become part of the Perfect Match program. Once Ewan realised Wendy was in town, he sent her a message to find out if she'd be interested and the two of them took the plan to the council. As a result of their vision and passion, as well as staff at the Inner West Council, Newtown now has a beautiful new mural to cherish.
