Petition to Keep Sydney Open in Parliament

Congratulations! We did it! 10,000+ people want to Keep Sydney Open!

Thanks to a great effort from locals, volunteers, artists, venues, community groups, and the Keep Sydney Open campaign, we've now collected more than 10,000 signatures on our petition to Keep Sydney Open.

IMG_3975.JPGThat means we will now have a debate to raise the community's concerns with the heavy handed law and order response that saw Sydney's CBD, Oxford Street and Kings Cross subject to lockout laws.

RSVP below to join us for the debate this Thursday afternoon at 4pm.

The lockouts have had an enormously negative impact on our creative communities, live music venues, our night-time economy and our vibrant nightlife. Live performance venues are reporting decreased attendance and revenues. A number of venues have been forced to cease trading.

There are a range of alternative solutions that can address alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour that allow Sydney to remain an internationally recognised, 24-hour city that encourages creativity, entrepreneurship and community use of public spaces.

We can keep Sydney open and safe!

The petition is scheduled for debate this Thursday - however the Parliamentary schedule can change at any time, even on the day, so please leave us your email address and phone number so we can notify you of any last minute changes.

Here’s the schedule for the afternoon:

  • 4:00pm: Arrive at Parliament and go through security at public entrance.*
  • 4:15pm: People to be seated in chamber.
  • 4:30pm: Debate starts.
  • 5:00pm: Gather for a post-debate photo at the top of Martin Place

We’re expecting a big group, so we’re allowing plenty of time for everyone to get through security and get seated.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!

*Note that campaign t-shirts and banners are not allowed in the Parliament.
